I think she is hard for people to relate to. All the other dolls were chose for their time period and then their character/culture was worked into the story. So with an AA character like Addy, she is still from the Civil War which is a HUGE part of American history. So even if some people read her books and have a hard time with the slavery issue or the dialect, there is always her era to fall back on. Although personally I LOVE everything about Addy. I have to throw that in there every chance I get
Josefina doesnt really have that. She was a character chosen more for her culture than her era. And although thats fine, unless you are from the southwest region, I think it is hard for many young girls to relate to her. Hence, slow sales equal a lack of new products. The 1820s are also a sort of blah decade in American history. There was no major wars going on or big political movements. Its not a definitive era. Some of Josie's outfits are defined as Regency era, but thats sort of off as it technically ended once the 1820s began. Not to mention, it was more of just a fashion over here, the term was started over in England in regards to their king.
So thats why imo Josie lacks the popularity of the other girls. I agree with you though, she is very neglected and I wish they would make something new for her already.
